Fermi's Forge
Two machines on one bench. The particle collider smashes protons, electrons, pions and whatever else you have found into each other, and the goal is all seventeen squares of the Standard Model. The nuclear beamline fires nuclei at targets, and the goal is the periodic table — and, for the stubborn, every one of the 3 339 isotopes ever seen. You start with a proton and a neutron. Everything that comes out of a collision is yours to fire next. Nothing is looked up: each collision is simulated from cross sections, conservation laws and measured decays, so what you get depends on what you collide and how hard. How it works →
